Warmth is not usually a word you would associate with the world of punk. Wild-eyed, maybe. Furious, certainly. Yet The Menzingers have always managed to balance their rollicking guitar work with a more tempered and homely sense of companionship. If there is still a punk scene then The Menzingers are the beating heart at the centre of it.
Philadelphia’s Cayetana released the best album you didn’t hear last year. ‘New Kind of Normal’ is an amalgamation of riffs, harmonies and sugar-spun pop rock choruses which isn’t quite like anything else around at the moment.
