Dutch Uncles’ material not only transcends genre but it playfully leaps across decades at the same time. Here the bombast of 70s pomp; there the parp of 80s synth experimentation. As such, it is somewhat bewildering as to why their star never ascended to the heights of many, far less inventive, peers. No less confusing is how the perpetually grey Manchester skies ever birthed such a colourful kaleidoscope of wonky anthems.
‘True Entertainment’ continues their mission, one they embarked upon well over a decade ago now, to embed philosophical commentary within the shimmering wonder of pop music – Dutch Uncles are the thinking man’s disco and this week sees them hitting the road, so you’d better hope you’ve been honing those dance moves during their half decade absence!
