While tonight’s set leans heavily on the tremendous ‘Go Farther in Lightness’, there are still glorious opportunities for 2015’s ‘The Positions’ to seep through the cracks. The band were writing from a very different place back then, but tracks like ‘Magnolia’ still relate and prompt one of the strongest reactions from those assembled.
‘Say Yes To Life’ is a perfect mantra to live by and when Leaupepe reveals that he “could almost take a whole life to disclose how I feel about the now”, you believe every word. Here is a man who has lived and possesses the ability to carve those experiences into the anthems of tomorrow.
By the time the band throw back the years and close with the epic ‘Vital Signs’, they’ve successfully shown everyone in The Deaf Institute that they truly are the next great musical hope. When they return to Manchester, the venue will be much bigger and tonight’s early adopters will be leading the charge to world domination.
